Sony Xperia Tablet Z now up for pre-order, scheduled to ship May 24th (video) (wireless.engadget)

If you've been waiting for the least burdensome tablet you could find, Sony's 17.5 ounce, 6.9mm thick Xperia Tablet Z is now up for pre-order in the US. On top of being the lightest, slimmest 10-inch slate on the market, it's not exactly slumming spec-wise either: there's a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, 2GB RAM, an 8.1-megapixel Exmor R camera, NFC, LTE, S-Force virtual surround sound, 32GB storage and a 10.1-inch 1,920 x 1,200 display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 tech. To round it off, the tab is dust- and water-resistant, and Sony's pre-loaded its TV SideView app, which uses the built-in IR to let you change your TV's channel and get scheduling, recommendations, voice search and IMDB-like info. The downside? We noted that the ambitiously thin design made the device a bit bendy and creaky, and then there's the $600 price tag -- frugal shoppers need not apply. You can pre- order at the source, or check the video after the break to see how a three- legged dog might use the slate while taking a bath. No, you didn't just misread that. It takes some digging, but beyond Iberian pork and octopus croquettes lies a vegetarian-friendly version of the Barcelona tapas crawl.

I like it when he’s going thru the groceries and he pulls out The Trader Joes Coffee tin….ooh ahh. Now, I’m an Aussie so I’ve never heard of Trader Joes Coffee, but to my thinking, a brand name like ‘Trader Joes’ does not exactly sound like your upmarket “Organic Arabica Exotica Dark Roast” blend? if you get my drift…on closer inspection, it looks like INSTANT coffee. Maybe it’s top of the range INSTANT coffee!
I think he might be confusing “frugal” with “stingy?

Gina Tobar says:

i completely agree with you! It’s not extreme frugality. It’s normal for anyone living on only $41k a year with four kids and two adults in the family!! I guess it’s a revelation for him. There must be MANY people in the US like them who thought living beyond their means was sustainable long term…hence, the foreclosure crisis.?

larrytm1 says:

His wife? hates it, lol…

omi3dov3 says:

Camden is an upscale? area in Maine and $40k a year is a respectable income. I wouldn’t exactly call this roughing it, more like “middle-class-having-to-cut-their-amazon-overspending” habits. Haha, sorry for the sarcasm.

Good Luck. Large Families on a limited income need gardens. My grandparents had 13 children. And yes, my grandfather hunted wild game and kept gardens. I know it may shock some folks because I am black but I grew up eating “NOT CHICKEN” but Squirrels and Deer and Raccoon meat. Also, frog legs and lots of fish. We ate what my grandfather would catch or grow. His garden has sugarcanes and greens and tomatos and green onions to name a few. I miss him. He passed away from Cancer a few years back.?

Um kinda bogus, lets be real, that chicken coop probably cost 3000.00. Its like spending 30000 on one of those new? volts to save in gas, i could drive my 20 mpg car the next 100 years and not spend 30000 the gas saver would cost. But its a good start i guess.

Rinsuki says:

Man if I had? that much land I could feed a whole community! Ha ha ha, I love it.

Rinsuki says:

We hang laundry to? dry all year round. We do it in the basement and have not had any problems. Though in the warmer months outside we go. We also grow our own food. Do dishes by hand and clean the old fashion way elbow grease. You save a lot of money by not being a lazy ass! Lol. No gym membership just cleaning will give you a nice daily work out.

So how about an? update…hows it all going? Thanks

Great inspiration to us all, (but? switch the light off in the background…..!!!

flemgooz says:

I love how he’s walking around saying? what he’s GONNA do.
I think this a good video about how UNfrugal the West are, if that makes media.
How’s the bit about the wife saying she doesn’t like hanging out laundry! oo aaah..so hard.
The reason any person with half a brain hangs out their washing on a sunny day, is that to do otherwise, is plain DUMB.
It’s hardly considered frugal to hang out washing, unless of course you live in a country of Hi -polluting gluttons,, then I stand corrected.

NunaYoBiznazz says:

Exactly.?

And other thing, they practically live in a mansion compared to the average person.

flemgooz says:

Although well intended, I thought that the video title was a laugh. “Extreme Frugality!!”.
I was expecting to see them saving their navel lint, but instead the guys talking about doing stuff to this huge property that any normal person should have done from the word? ‘go’ & then the wife’s bemoaning hanging out the washing to dry. Well Bravo!!! What planet are they living on???, It’s Planet America!
That video was just normal stuff for any progressive thinker, (outside US of course)

David Terpening says:

Do more,? Please!

EvitaB83 says:

$2,000? a month on food?!?!?!?! lol sheesh!

MikaOnida says:

To start I just want to say that I agree with “manure is manure’ (for those who don’t, please check out humanurehandbook(dot)com for more info).

The main concern growing on a leach field would be that manure put on a garden is aged properly(composted) and therefore less likely to pass on pathogens when it gets splashed up on the plants by? a heavy rain. Septic tanks do not compost the manure.

Michael7477 says:

If he was earning 40k and spending 100k for ten years he must be 600k in the red unless htey aren’t telling? us something. I hope I didn’t misunderstand – happy to be corrected but the story doesn’t make sense.

missyouhoo says:

you guys are awesome?

MrsReverendDr says:

Would love to see? a follow up to this

nuhrisha says:

I like how the kids cooperated with the parents! Very nice video? and inspiring!!

t2mar4 says:

I live by one principle when it comes to spending money. Before you put an item in the cart, ask yourself do I WANT? this or NEED this. I am that 95% of the time, you want the item. If that is your answer, put the item back on the shelves. But never go cheap on grocery though. Always stock up your grocery with items you know your family can’t live without. As an Asian, I can always whip up a meal if we have rice. :-) Trust me. We are seeing the results.

madmar1000 says:

we didn’t have a choice to be frugal, my husband became disabled when he was 26. we live off of a disability pension at only 1700 dollars/month. that’s only 21k/yr. thank goodness in Canada we have free health care and the pension covers dental and prescriptions..but it’s tough. we have hard working, healthy, self motivated kids.BTW as a kid growing up with a horticulturist as? a father…we grew our garden on the septic bed…THE BEST TOMATOES EVER! he said, manure is manure…i’m still alive!

madmar1000 says:

great video, we also do without a lot to save a? lot. if you live in the country(like we do) it’s easier. i’v been making our own bread for 11 years now, and i even make dog food, crakers, pasta, pirogi , etc… we average out at 250 dollars/month on groceries. my whole family hunts, so we save big time on meat. it’s true, kids do adapt(we have 3) we don’t see it as denying our kids of normality…normal is what you live everyday…this is normal! keep up the good work…very inspiring.

blueglitter5 says:

I love this guys attitude!!! Good? for him and his family, I wish them all the best!

justposner says:

It’s good to live? like this. Simpler and happier. I wish everyone in the world has a chance to make this choice.

mmichaelwwong says:

this actually seems fun to make everything yourself but it must be hard? work.

SayNo2googlification says:

There is nothing impressive about sticking chock full of nuts into a trader joes can. It’s actually quite pathetic.

You know what’s frugal – not breeding a bunch of kids.?

survivalinurbania says:

voicification says:

Ok, this guy? is actually frugal instead of being cheap like the guy who washes paper towels. Quite inspiring :)

quest8899 says:

There is nothing? wrong with saving money

EIZxF says:

What? no eating out

Petra44YT says:

Cool! Where? are your apple and cherry trees? You should plant some. Then you can make apple sauce yourselves. After a few years, I mean.

SeasickBill says:

I wouldnt be inspired because I am a man with a wife and kids so videos like this can inspire people like me. I don’t have land but I plan to get some one day and live in a self sufficient homestead. If you had to live in your car for a month then maybe you just wernt frugal enough. Perhaps you should have watched a video like this instead of the? one of the miracle working single mother working to give birthday parties and christmas only to let her kids starve the rest of the year!

MiFFiL says:

I wish I could do some of these things but I live in? an apartment..

cheetocairo says:

I’m more inspired my the working single mother who makes miracles happen to give her child a good Christmas or birthday; these people are lucky enough to have a home, land and made the decision to be “frugal”, a lot of people don’t have that? luxury; try not eating everyday and living in a car for a month
